PROCLAMATIONS & RESOLUTIONS
The Coalition’s Proclamation Project
On May 6, 2013, Governor Chris Christie signed the NJ Human Trafficking Prevention, Protection and Treatment Act. Coupled with the measure, the Governor also signed bills designating each January as “Human Trafficking Prevention Month” and January 11th as “Human Trafficking Awareness Day”. Both the day and the month are marked nationally as times of human trafficking awareness.
On November 19, 2015, after working with the NJ Coalition Against Human Trafficking (Coalition), a resolution was unanimously passed at the NJ League of Municipalities: Urging Local Officials to Provide Leadership in Ending Human Trafficking. You can read that resolution in full HERE.
To support municipalities following this resolution, the Coalition produced a COMMUNITY AWARENESS TOOLKIT of ideas and resources. Please ensure that your municipalities have this resource.
Prior to the passage of this important resolution the Coalition had been urging all municipalities to issue individual proclamations designating January 11 of each year as Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
